Renters Tax Relief

The Social Services Department for the Town of Clinton will begin taking applications on May 16, 2011 for the Renter’s Tax Relief (Rent Rebate) Program.

To qualify, you must be age 65 or over, or disabled, and you must rent your current dwelling.  The gross annual income in 2010 must be less than $32,300 for a single person, and less than $39,500 for a married couple.  You must have resided in Connecticut for any one-year period prior to filing an application.  If you qualify for this program, you will receive a benefit to help offset rental expenses.

Please call Clinton Social Services at 860-669-7347 to make your appointment.  Please be sure to bring the following documents in for your appointment:

  • Proof of income for 2010

2010 Income Tax Forms
1099 Social Security Statemen
Statement of Disability Benefits & Proof of Disability (TPQY from Social Security)Statement of Pension
Interest and Dividend Statements

  • Proof of monthly rent paid from January 2010 to December 2010 (copies of returned checks, printout from rental management company, or letter from landlord.)
  • Proof of payments made to CL&P from January 2010 to December 2010 (copies of returned checks or printout from CL&P.)
  • Proof of payments made to the water company from January 2010 to December 2010.
  • Proof of payments made for heating costs from January 2010 to December 2010.
